Digital divide
This is my take on the digital divide and how it can be fixed partially!
Digital Divide
The digital divide is the gap between the people who have access to the internet and mass medias and the people who do not. I think it would be difficult to bridge the digital divide but it can be done. A few ways that we can begin to bridge this gap would be to expand the use of technology at school, work with the community, and send electronic devices home with the students through the school.
One of the best ways to help eradicate the digital divide would be to expand technology use during the day in high schools with a high percentage without electronic use at home. With this access the students who do not usually have this access at home, they could get their internet and electronic fix during the day. Another way to help would be to work with the community. Families may not be aware of this but local YMCA’s and Mcdonalds and more offer free internet access and some even offer free laptops and desktops for the public to use. When students to not have access to electronics at home, what better way to help fix the digital divide then sending them home with one. Where I am from, St. Joseph, Missouri, The local school district sends each student home with a Chrome-book laptop. Each student has an assigned computer so at the end of the year if it is not turned in than the school knows who’s computer is missing.
